Boom, crash

There's nothing like a dog with a fear of thunderstorms to get you up at 4 in the morning. Georgie quivers so the whole bed shakes, she pants like a steam engine going up a steep hill, she tries to dig holes in the carpet, she tries to climb the tallest items in the room, she paws the answering machine ("You have zero messages... You have zero messages"). Tranquilizers may help a little but not much. Having someone awake and with her does help (hence this post).
Z did a science fair project years ago and found that fear of thunderstorms seems to be genetic, at least in Norfolk Terriers. ¿Time for gene surgery?
A friend knows someone with a dog where beta-blockers (heart medication that keeps the heart from racing and pounding) helped with fear of thunderstorms. Sounds like time for a talk with the vet.
